What Happens When the Minimum Wage Rises? It Depends on Monetary Policy

چکیده
Andrew Glover and Jose Mustre-del-Rio examine how monetary policy may amplify or dampen the response of employment inflation to an increase in minimum wage. Their model-based analysis suggests a wage has expansionary effects on economy if central bank is relatively unresponsive current inflation, contractionary responds more aggressively (more than one-for-one) inflation. More generally, their framework that engenders effects, can mitigate these by allowing rise nominal interest rate.

Wage Indexation and Monetary Policy∗
This paper analyzes the impact of indexed wage contracts on inflation and social welfare in a Barro–Gordon model with state contingent monetary policy. Wage indexation reduces the inflation bias but may raise the variance of inflation rates. In social optimum wages are fully indexed to the price level, but this requires optimal wage adjustments to productivity shocks. If wage adjustments to pro...
متن کاملStagnation and minimum wage: Optimal minimum wage policy in macroeconomics
This paper argues how an increase in minimum wage affects employment, consumption, and social welfare with dynamic general equilibrium model without market frictions. The study demonstrates that a minimum wage hike reduces an actual unemployment rate and has positive effects on an employment rate under the demand-shortage economy whereas they do not under a non-demand shortage economy. The stud...

Transposable elements (TEs) are ubiquitous residents in eukaryotic genomes. They can cause dramatic changes in gene expression and lead to gross rearrangements of chromosome structure, providing the basis for rapid evolution. The virilis species group of Drosophila contains certain species that can be crossed under experimental conditions and their phylogeny is thoroughly investigated. We have ...
متن کاملNon-Atomistic Wage Setters and Monetary Policy
The purpose of the paper is to study the monetary policy implications of unionized labor markets in a New Keynesian framework. It is shown that, once the presence of large wage setters is taken into account, the degree of wage setting centralization and the aggressiveness of the central bank in stabilizing inflation jointly affect the equilibrium level of real economic activity in the long-run....

The current study aims to obtain knowledge about the nature of the processes involved in Hazard Perception, using measurement techniques to separate and independently quantify these suspected sub-processes: Sensation, Situation Awareness (recognition, location and projection) and decision-making. It applies Signal Detection Theory analysis to Hazard Perception and Prediction Tasks. To enable th...
